King James 11 1685 Half Penny

King James 11 of England & Ireland, also King James V11 of Scotland. He was the younger brother of Charles 11 and reigned from 1685 until 1688. Born in St James Palace London on October 24th 1633. 

Towards the end of his short reign there was much civil unrest with waring factions deciding who would be the next heir to throne. The birth of his son and rightfull heir James Francis Edward which raised the prospect of a Catholic Dynasty. Therfore excluding his daughter Mary and her protestant husband William 111 of Orange.

To prevent a Civil war James was removed from the throne, William 111 was invited to take the throne on the 5th November 1688 by leading English political leaders. James Army deserted and landed in France where they took refuge and went into exile on December 29th. In February 1689 a special convention parliment proclaimed that James had vacated the English Throne. William & Mary took the thown as joint Monarchs. In March the following month James was also declaered by a Scottish convention that he was no longer King of Scotland which was then also handed to William & Mary. James tried to hold on to his rightful Kingship but was defeated at his final battle "The Battle Of The Boyne" in July 1690, he then lived the rest of his life in Saint-Germaine Paris. He died in 1701 at the age of 67 he is burried at the church of the English Benedictines.
