Charles 1st Sixpence, Originally this coin was minted in the Oxford Mint

Born 19th November 1600 into the House Of Stewart he was the second son of James V1. He became King of England, Scotland & Ireland on the 27th March 1625 until his execution in 1649. 

Towards the end of the English Civil war Charles 1st was based in Oxford, the home town of the Oxford Mint where this splendid coin was originally minted. He was eventually defeated by Parliamentarian New Model Army and fled north from his base in Oxford where he later surrendered. He was later imprisoned on the Isle Of White, tried for High Treason and faced the hang mans noose.
